Ferly let me connect with my body and stop feeling shame around sex

“This app is absolutely amazing! I’m discovering pleasure I didn’t even know I enjoyed. Sex has always been a topic we ignored (I come from a conservative upbringing and my parents never even gave me the talk). So to me sexual pleasure always seemed wrong and “dirty”. But honestly, this app is really helping me get out of that mindset. Thanks for creating this!!”

Helping me manage vaginismus/painful sex

“I LOVE THIS APP!!! I was sexually assaulted and was since diagnosed with vaginismus. It’s really hard for me to be present during sex and not to worry about pain/feeling broken. Thanks to this app, me and my partner have been able to explore intimacy together in a way that’s fun, engaging and comfortable. I’ve finally been able to get my body AND my mind in the mood. Thank you sooooo much.”

My therapist recommended Ferly for my low libido

“I’m a mom and I’m tired all the time. My husband and I have been married for almost 13 years and it’s all gone super fast. I’ve never had an orgasm and sometimes I feel like there’s a lot of pressure/expectation of sex. Ferly’s helped us to reconnect and to give me the confidence to ask for what I want and communicate better. Yes to getting my sex drive back! It’s been so empowering, I can’t thank you enough.”

Joyce, 44

We can relate because we’ve been there too

Sex. It’s so much more than physical.

When it came to starting Ferly, we were new to this whole ‘sex’ thing. Sure, we’d been having it, but we didn’t even know what a vulva was. What we did know was that Ferly needed to exist.

As women and as survivors of sexual assault and violence, we get that it’s common to struggle with sex. Being distracted, painful sex, overthinking, feeling disconnected, lacking confidence, unsure how to communicate, unable to get in the mood, struggling with orgasm, worrying whether we’re ‘normal’... and the list goes on.

It seems pretty obvious right? That enjoying sex is so much more than physical. In fact, it’s way more than physical. We’d even argue that it’s as much a priority to our general health as exercising and getting a good night’s sleep.

Together, with our community, we’re smashing the taboo, the stigma and the shame around women’s health and female pleasure. By normalizing conversations about sex, we’re empowering the 51% of women who struggle with it. So yeah, that’s why we built Ferly.

Because we believe that all women and folx with vulvas have the right to lead healthy, confident and pleasurable lives.

How does Ferly work?

The Ferly crew is big on ‘learning-by-doing’. That’s why we provide expert-guided audio programs to help you enjoy sex more. Through the app you’ll:

  • Learn about the science of sex with our research-based theory sessions
  • Explore what pleasure means to you with our touch-based practices
  • Be present in your body with our mindfulness exercises
  • Build your sexual self-confidence with our cognitive behavioural therapy practices
  • Connect with others through our discussion groups, events and community

When you sign up for a Ferly membership, you’ll get access to: feature programs (e.g. Cultivating Desire, Sex After Trauma, Body Confidence, etc.), single sessions like ‘Body Mapping’, podcasts and interviews, sensual stories to help get you in the mood, guided journalling prompts and access to our community.

How do I know if Ferly is for me?

The short answer is that Ferly’s for women and anyone with a vulva! Afterall, sex is kinda human.

We have found that we’re particularly helpful for folks who are struggling with sex, experiencing sexual difficulties and/or who would like to prioritise their sexual wellbeing.

Here are some of the common challenges that Ferly’s helped our community to tackle. How to:

  • Experience more pleasure and orgasm
  • Be more confident
  • Increase desire
  • Connect to our bodies
  • Stop overthinking, feeling anxious and being self-critical
  • Relax and be present during sex
  • Identify our sexual needs
  • Communicate with a partner
  • Build a better relationship
  • Heal from sexual trauma
  • Let go of sexual shame after conservative upbringings

It’s also totally normal to feel whatever you may be feeling about starting Ferly. You may feel nervous, anxious, apprehensive, maybe a little scared. At the same time, you may also feel curious, hopeful or even excited. Any and all of that is a.ok. Sex is a big topic and one that most of us have never really been given the space to explore. Know that you’re absolutely not alone, that we’ve been there too and that we’ve got you.

What’s the science?

As you know, science sits at the heart of what we do, which is why we’ve created our own method for supporting women’s mental health and sexual wellbeing. Ferly’s method is built on the biopsychosocial model. That sounds like a lot of technical lingo so let’s break it down.

The biopsychosocial model is kind of a staple in health interventions and one that practitioners have been using for decades. It’s built on the idea that as individuals, in order to improve and maintain our health, we need to understand the relationship between our biology (‘bio’), psychology (‘psycho’) and sociology (‘social’).

The ‘bio’ side of things includes stuff like hormones, neurochemistry, and changes our bodies go through over time (e.g. pregnancy, menopause, illness etc.). The ‘psycho’ aspect covers bits like our feelings, personalities, attitudes, etc. And last but not least, the ‘social’ side looks at the external influences in our lives, e.g. lifestyle, culture, family, religion, gender norms etc. By combining the bio, the psycho and the social, we focus on your relationship to sex and not just how you have it.

How much does a Ferly membership cost?

Free to start! We want you to give it a go and make sure it’s right for you before buying anything. Cancel anytime before the trial is up. After your free 7-day trial, you’ll be billed automatically and according to the membership you sign up for. You can choose between:

  • Monthly at £12.99
  • Annual at £39.99
  • Lifetime at £399.99

As a Ferly member, you’ll get access to: feature programs (e.g. Cultivating Desire, Sex After Trauma, Body Confidence, etc.), single sessions like ‘Body Mapping’, podcasts and interviews, sensual stories to help get you in the mood, guided journalling prompts and access to our community.

How do I sign up for a free 7-day trial?

Sex is about as personal as it gets so feel free to explore Ferly and try it out first!

To sign up for your trial all you need to do is download the app, swipe through the introduction and click ‘start my 7-day free trial’ in the app. Simple!

A gentle reminder, if you decide not to go with Ferly, you’ll need to cancel your free trial within 7 days of signing up (via your mobile device settings) so you’re not accidentally charged. To cancel your trial (and/or manage your membership), you'll have to do this yourself via your mobile device and subscription settings. Here are some helpful links on how to do this for iOS and Android. Likewise, if you forget to cancel and are accidentally charged, you'll have to contact the App Store and/or Google Play directly (for security and privacy purposes we don't have access to your subscriptions and account information).

How long does it take?

It depends. Sex is pretty damn personal and our sex lives are kinda like a fingerprint in that they’re unique to each of us. Where you’re at in your journey comes from a combination of your biology, your psychology and the social environment around you so it’s actually really hard toput a timeline on it.

The reality is, it ain’t gonna be a quick fix like poppin’ a pill. Healing, maintaing and transforming your sexual wellbeing, just like your physical and mental wellbeing takes work.

What we do know is that people are busy and they’ve got a lot going on. That’s why we’ve designed Ferly to be as easy as possible. All of our content is audio-based, so you can listento them wherever and they typically run between 10-20 minutes. We’ve also let you know whether they’re better suited for public vs. private listening depending on the content. Most of our programs are between 6-8 modules long and we generally recommend doing a module once a week. That being said, if you wanna binge through ‘em, feel free!

In speaking with our program grads, we’ve found that most of them had improvements and noticed changes within just a few sessions. Whilst change is an ongoing piece of work, we’d expect that you’d see some big shifts over the course of 4-8 weeks.

Can I trust you?

As survivors of sexual violence and assault, as well as just being good humans, trust is everything to us. The way we see it is that we have a moral and ethical duty to ensure the health and wellbeing of our community. This means recognising where we can help but also knowing where we can’t. We’re not a replacement for medical treatment and depending on where you’re at in your journey, we’ll be the first to put our hands up and recommend additional support if we think you may need it.

We talk about science a lot but here’s why we’re actually serious about it. One of our founders, Dr. Anna Hushlak, has spent the last 15 years working in science and research. During this time, she’s seen how powerful science can be in educating us but also, where science has fallen short, especially with regards to women’s health. Likewise, our other founder, Billie Quinlan, is a trained and qualified health coach who understands the importance of thinking about health holistically and in a way that’s actionable.

When we say science is ‘in our DNA’, we mean it. We do the research, we read the papers, we collaborate with the institutions and the experts, and we make sure that we’re not pushing any of the pseudo-stuff or the stuff that’s straight up bullsh*t and potentially even harmful. Trust has to be earned and maintained. This is why we’re so serious about vetting the experts we work with and making sure they’re always vetting us too.
